Can your car be confiscated after a DUI?

Posted on October 3, 2015 in Drunk Driving Charges

In Arizona, many people enjoy a drink once in a while. However, if you choose to drive after you have been drinking it is important to be aware of the amount of alcohol you might have in your system. This is because, no matter how coherent and in control you might be, if you are found to be over the legal limit, you could be charged with drunk driving.

The penalties for this can vary dramatically, depending on the precise details of your arrest. However, the more times you are convicted, the worse the consequences can become for each subsequent offense. Even a first offense can be life changing, as the mark on your criminal record could affect everything from your insurance premiums to your chances of finding a job.

If you have two previous drunk driving convictions, on a third offense, it is possible that your vehicle may be confiscated. Even on a second conviction there is the potential for you to be required to have an ignition interlock device fitted into your vehicle. On each of your first three convictions there is also the potential for a 90-day revocation or suspension of your driver’s license.

All of these things can be highly inconvenient, but you may be even more concerned about the mark on your record and the potential fines and jail time you could face if found guilty. As such, a good defense is critical and it is important to begin considering your options as early as possible.

An attorney may prove to be an invaluable ally as you prepare for your trial. He or she can advise you about the charges you face and may be able to help you build your defense and secure a favorable outcome to your trial.
