The Pioneer Justice Court is one of the newest Justice Courts in Pinal County, having been split off from the Apache Junction Justice Court in January 2019. The Court is located at 3675 E Hunt Highway, San Tan Valley, AZ. The Court is open for business Monday – Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Free parking is available in the front lot of the courthouse. Visitors should allow enough time to park and complete security screening before their scheduled hearing. Visitors are required to pass through metal detectors when entering the courthouse. The location also provides onsite Spanish-language assistance, while interpreters for other languages can be requested.

The Justice of the Peace for the Pioneer Justice Court is Hon. Shaun Babeu. The Pinal County Attorney’s Office acts as the prosecutor in the Pioneer Justice Court. Its jurisdiction covers primarily the San Tan Valley area.

Police agencies that frequently send their cases to the Pioneer Justice Court include the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Public Safety.

The Rosenstein Law Group can help you get the best possible result in your case, regardless of which agency arrested you. We have handled cases prosecuted by the Pinal County Attorney’s Office originating from both of these agencies and more and will work to create a defense designed to achieve results for you and your case.

How Do I File Documents With the Pioneer Justice Court?

The Pioneer Justice Court provides forms for criminal and civil matters, including a general motion packet and other Justice Court forms. Court forms should be completed using the appropriate form and submitted to the correct court along with any required filing fee.

For criminal and civil/criminal traffic cases, the Pioneer Justice Court specifically states that motions must be filed using the correct forms and submitted in person or by mail. The court does not process motions submitted by email.

When filing a motion, complete the form, file the original with the Court, and provide a copy to the other party. The opposing party may have an opportunity to respond or object before the judge rules on the motion.

What Happens When I Go to Court?

Attending court at the Pioneer Justice Court generally goes as follows:

  • First, check your citation or court paperwork for the date, time, and court listed for your case. The Pioneer Justice Court is located at 3675 E. Hunt Highway, San Tan Valley, AZ 85143, and the court is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
  • Arrive early enough to park, pass through security, and check in with court staff before your scheduled hearing.
  • If you have been issued a criminal citation, your first court appearance is generally an arraignment, where you enter a plea of guilty, not guilty, or no contest. If you plead not guilty, the Court generally schedules a pretrial proceeding or trial.
  • At a pretrial conference, you or your attorney can meet with the prosecutor, review the complaint and available police reports and other evidence, and discuss possible resolutions. You can accept a plea agreement, plead guilty or no contest without an agreement, or maintain your not-guilty plea and proceed to trial.
  • If your case proceeds to trial, you may have a bench trial or jury trial, depending on the offense and your applicable rights.
  • If you are arrested rather than issued a citation, your first court hearing is generally an initial appearance, where the judge informs you of the charges and determines the conditions of your release.
  • Do not miss a required court appearance. Failure to appear for an arraignment can generally result in a warrant, and failing to appear for other hearings can also lead to serious consequences.

Remember that every case is different, and the procedure can vary depending on the charges and stage of your case. Speak with your attorney about what to expect before your court appearance.
