New Year’s Eve DUI patrols ready to roll across Arizona

Posted on December 30, 2013 in DUI Charges

It’s almost time to ring out 2013 and ring in 2014. There are many traditions to be observed tomorrow night, but one ritual we should all try to avoid is the traditional rounding up of people in Scottsdale and across Arizona who are suspected of driving under the influence.

As always, law enforcement agencies are expected to be out in force looking for people in violation of DUI laws.

If you plan to ring in the New Year in Phoenix, here’s some good news: the city is partnering with a beer company to provide partiers with free transportation on buses and light rail, as well as via Dial-A-Ride, beginning at 7 p.m.

In fact, partiers will be able to make use of extended light rail service until two in the morning on New Year’s Eve (and into New Year’s Day) as part of the effort to make celebrations safe for everyone.

Tempe’s bus service will also be stretched out so that people attending the Mill Avenue block party that night can get rides.

You can also get free rides from AAA’s Tipsy Tow service starting at 6 p.m. tomorrow and continuing through six in the morning on New Year’s Day.

It’s a free, one-way tow available to anyone (not just AAA members) who has been out drinking.

However, please note that AAA will charge folks if the tow goes beyond 10 miles. It should also be noted that tow truck drivers will not take motorists from one party to another, but merely to the driver’s home or hotel.

For those who are facing a DUI charge in the New Year, the best approach is to talk to an attorney who understands the law and the legal options available that can help motorists avoid the harshest penalties.
