Where were you arrested? A DUI is a state offense, but each jurisdiction handles them slightly differently.

Labor Day DUI enforcement

Labor Day weekend is a great time to soak up the last days of summer with friends, family, food, and fun. It's also important to remember to celebrate safely and responsibly. Last year, there were 10 deaths from 10 traffic collisions during the holiday weekend. The Arizona Department of Public Safety is working hard this year to stop dangerous driving behaviors and increase road safety.

Labor Day Weekend Safety Enforcement

Holiday weekends are always more heavily patrolled by police in order to enforce safety. To help motorists stay safe and keep traffic moving, the Arizona Department of Transportation says there will be no state highways closures for construction over the weekend. However, existing work zone lane reductions will continue to be enforced.

On all highways and roadways, state troopers, police officers, and deputy sheriffs will be looking for dangerous driving behaviors such as driving while under the influence. The Governor's Office of Highway Safety launched the Labor Day Holiday DUI Task Force Campaign, which consists of nine statewide task forces and 72 law enforcement agencies.

What To Do If You're Stopped For A DUI

If you were stopped or arrested for DUI this Labor Day weekend, the best thing you can do is to know and exercise your rights. Asserting your rights, and working with an attorney, is the best way to avoid a DUI conviction

Right to Refuse Field Tests

Did you know that you have the right to refuse to perform sobriety tests? Field tests are designed to provide probable cause for your arrest. Although the officer will likely ask you to perform a set of tasks to test your sobriety, he or she won't tell you that you do not have to do them.

Right to An Attorney

When you exercise your right to an attorney, the police can no longer question you until your lawyer is present. A DUI charge is a serious criminal charge that calls for serious defense and representation.

Right to Remain Silent

When you have been arrested, the smartest thing you can do is call an attorney and keep quiet. You will not be able to explain your way out of the situation. If anything, you are only providing more evidence against you.

Contact An Attorney For Help

If you or someone you know has been stopped or arrested for a DUI, contact an experienced attorney for assistance. Do not try to handle your case on your own. You will make mistakes that hurt your future.
