Where were you arrested? A DUI is a state offense, but each jurisdiction handles them slightly differently.

Arizona man charged with DUI and assault

Being arrested on suspicion of drunk driving comes with all sorts of potential repercussions. You could have your license suspended, be subjected to a lengthy criminal investigation and even face fines or a prison sentence. Furthermore, you may find a drunk driving charge affects your employment and relationships with friends and family.

In Cottonwood, Arizona, a Sunday evening accident led to a DUI arrest. According to a report, a pickup truck crashed into a car. The 24-year-old driver of the car claimed that she had attempted to pull further away from the truck before the accident, but that the second vehicle accelerated into hers. She further claimed that the driver of the pickup lost his balance after getting out of his vehicle.

The 41-year-old pickup truck driver, a Cornville man, was allegedly incoherent and unable to describe the circumstances of the incident to officers. After a failed attempt at carrying out a field sobriety test, the man was arrested and taken to the county jail. A blood draw was carried out and he was charged with driving under the influence and aggravated assault.

If you are involved in an accident or traffic stop, officers may investigate you in a similar manner. If you display signs of incoherence or impediment, there is a good chance that you will be investigated for drunk driving. Of course, there are many things that can cause you to behave in this way, such as illness or fatigue and this can be taken into account in the course of the investigation.

An attorney may be of great help at this point. He or she can help to ensure that your version of events is heard. Furthermore, if there were any breaches of protocol in the process of your arrest, an attorney may be able to help you identify them. This in turn could invalidate the charges against you.
