Commercial DUI can have serious consequences

Posted on March 22, 2015 in Uncategorized

Many drivers in Arizona not only rely on their driving license for getting around in their day-to-day lives, but also to permit them to do their jobs. In a lot of cases, this can require a specific license for driving commercial vehicles as an unsuitable driver could put the lives of many at risk. For the same reason, the penalties for driving offenses in a commercial vehicle are often higher than those for individuals in private vehicles.

For example, whereas a driver who refuses a blood alcohol test would normally have their license revoked, if a commercial driver does the same, it is considered equivalent to an admission of guilt. Commercial drivers are also subject to lower BAC limits when driving, so they need to be especially careful when driving with any alcohol in their systems.

Being convicted of drunk driving while in control of a commercial vehicle can also result in longer periods of license restriction. The biggest problem with this for many drivers is that it leaves them unable to do their job for the duration of the suspension period. This could even result in the loss of their employment altogether.

If you have been charged with drunk driving and you are concerned about the consequences, you might benefit from the guidance and support of an attorney. He or she can help you understand the penalties you might face and may be able to assist you with forming your defense. With this in mind, you can work toward ensuring that the court hears your side of the story, so you can improve your chances of avoiding conviction.
