Memorial Day DUI Statistics

Posted on May 29, 2014 in DUI Arrest

Last Friday started Arizona’s state wide crackdown on DUI enforcement for the Memorial Day weekend. This crackdown was yet another attempt to enforce Arizona’s already strict drinking and driving laws, and to prevent injuries and fatalities due to automobile accidents.

There were best efforts made by police officers and their respected agencies this past weekend, with 1,660 officers from 70 different agencies participating in the task force this year. It was reported by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, that law enforcement made more than 13,000 stopsstarting on May 23 to Tuesday morning. Even though, if one can imagine, that number was the lowest number of stops since the 2010 Memorial Day weekend, there were still nearly 560 people arrested over the holiday weekend.

Some other statistics from the weekend were that officers issued 340 citations for underage drinking and made 148 arrests for Extreme DUI.
