2/16 MMJ Medical Marijuana Farmers Market

Posted on February 21, 2014 in DUI Drugs

This past weekend the Rosenstein Law Group attended the bi-monthly Medical Farmers Market, hosted by CAMP 420. CAMP 420 is the Campaign Against Marijuana Prohibition, a local activist group in Arizona. These activists are proud supporters of the medicalmarijuana law, Arizona Medical Marijuana Act (AMMA). CAMP 420 works to educate communities about cannabis, and change Arizona’s severe marijuana laws.

During our time at the farmers market, we got to experience the passion and drive the organizers, patients, and vendors have for changing severe existing marijuana laws, as well as legalizing marijuana. The organizers provided legal updates on topics such as the “25 Mile Rule”, and the signature drive for the Safer Arizona Legalization Campaign.

The 25 Mile Rule enforced by the AMMA reads that patients and/or caregivers will no longer be legally authorized to cultivate their own marijuana if the patient lives within 25 miles of a medical marijuana dispensary. The objection to these rules comes from constitutional amendment that the government cannot “institute any law or rule that would compelstate residents to participate in a health care system.” Another reality is that most patients using medical marijuana will not be able to afford dispensary prices, therefore enabling them from getting a doctor-recommended prescription.

The Safer Arizona Legalization Campaign is a grassroots campaign to legalize the use of marijuana by adults 18 years or older. The campaign needs to accumulate 259,213 signatures to put this issue on the 2014 ballot. During the MMJ farmers market, updates are announced to inform the cannabis community of the progress being made in this signature drive.

Initiatives being made by supporters of the marijuana campaigns are not ones to ignore. With support growing every day, keep an eye out for a marijuana proposal on the 2014 and/or 2016 ballots.
